  Appreciative Medicine

Appreciative MedicineTM is a philosophical approach to medicine that views health and life as a continuum of physical, emotional, and psychological as well as a spiritual quest.

    This is a simple list of seven things that Appreciative MedicineTM does:

In conventional health care it's difficult for patients to get beyond their "illness" - because in traditional medicine, the focus is on a "problem oriented approach." This model works great in the acute care setting: e.g. chest pain, stroke, or major traumas such as motor vehicle accidents, but this approach is very limiting when trying to get beyond chronic illness: e.g. fibromyalgia, chronic pain syndrome, back pain, asthma, diabetes, or allergies.
 
With Appreciative MedicineTM, multiple treatment options are combined synergistically to create an optimal wellness plan, with the focus on optimal well-being. When we change our focus - when we are able to see beyond a particular health challenge - we can experience the highest quality of human health. In fact, our mindset is the ultimate factor, a prerequisite to achieving your optimal self.
 
Within Appreciative MedicineTM, we create a dialogue between patient and physician - amongst all the practitioners an individual is working with - and within the individual themselves. This specific process is called "Appreciative Dialogue."
 
This approach creates wellness from within, and incorporates the entire spectrum of health care options from conventional medicine to acupuncture to massage. Within this alternative approach, each person calls upon innate healing energies, dwelling upon all the goodness and creative spirit that lies within to achieve the ultimate in health and life.

  The Appreciative Medicine Dialogue Process

Optimizing Healing from Within:
Appreciative Dialogue is based upon optimizing healing from within. Human physiology is based upon biological and chemical reactions that occur to regulate and maintain life. Our immune responses can be enhanced and our hormones optimized by activating innate healing. These systems can be turned on by proper nutrition, exercise, meditation, improved sleeping patterns, healthy relationships, managing stress, and probably enhanced by massage, acupuncture, and proper spinal alignments.
 
The Appreciative Dialogue process leads you through a series of four steps. With each step there are questions that help guide you to an increased level of awareness and assist you in choosing the right healing options and combination of choices for you. It is through exploring these questions in journal writings that you develop, write, and construct your own personal healing plan - your map, your compass, your ultimate guide to wellbeing.
 
To achieve the ultimate in health is like any other journey. It's a quest that begins with one step at a time. To begin, however, requires a change in your mindset, a new way to focus your mind to create your new paradigm of today. We begin by immersing ourselves with goodness, love, and joy and begin to dwell on the creative positive instinct in our lives, then we begin to explore and participate in Appreciative Dialogue beginning with Step 1, each step taken in sequence.
 
The Four Steps:
We'll begin then with Step 1. These are the "first steps to self-awareness": to begin to develop a vision of optimal well-being, to focus on the positive realm of goodness and health within you. Here, our focus begins to change.
 
Step 2 is called "modalities that nurture." These are tools for harnessing the vital energetic force to create healing. This includes the entire spectrum of healing, from conventional approaches to acupuncture and chiropractic to massage techniques. It is the application of the right combination at optimal times and intervals that releases maximum healing potential.
 
Step 3 is called "keys to new directions." This is an opportunity to reflect upon your accomplishments, a way to clarify your goals. On any journey, it's important to have benchmarks along the way. So, too, in your health. We frequently reflect on where you've been so we're more clear on where you're going. Now, focus on your expectations and receive inner guidance.
 
Step 4 is actualization of the ultimate self. Now that you're clearly focused on the road ahead, you obtain true insight into who you are and where you want to go. Optimal health is more than just a state; it's the way you experience your life, the way you live it every day. It is through this willingness to feel that you meet your total self. In return, you generate dynamic solutions and synergistic relationships leading to inner harmony, balance, and optimal health.
 
Appreciative Dialogue is about going beyond healing and getting really excited about the miracle of life and really manifesting in your life all that is humanly possible. This is all about empowering you, giving you the tools, the direction to become the ultimate you physically, emotionally, psychologically as well as spiritually.

Appreciative Dialogue is about building bridges among the entire continuum of health care, where everyone's focus is you.

The core of my message is that we are the ones that hold the keys to our overall health, and Appreciative Dialogue will help guide you to unlock the treasures that lie within. This is all about empowering you, giving you the tools, the direction to become the ultimate you physically, emotionally, psychologically as well as spiritually.
