Physicians and health care providers are overworked, underpaid, and ill-appreciated. They are ridden with lawsuits, bogged down by insurance policies, overwhelmed by patients, and lacking in peer support. They are burning out faster than ever and are wondering why they ever wanted to become a doctor in the first place. Patient contact is short and impersonal. Treatment is based upon problems instead of prevention and is focused on medication instead of rehabilitation and living proactively.
Patients remain chronically ill because of a lack of understanding and education about how to find and maintain their health. Fast food, 500 television channels, multiplex movie theaters, fad diets, environmental toxins, and preventable diseases contribute to a culture of sick people. Patients are fed up with soaring health care costs, minimal face time with doctors, and a continual cycle of sickness.
The Appreciative MedicineTM Network is a national network of likeminded professional health care providers and patients built around the concept of creating and optimizing wellness.
The purpose of "The Network" is to:
- Educate health care providers and patients on Appreciative MedicineTM, an alternative paradigm from which to view traditional and Complementary medicine.
- Show health care providers and patients how Appreciative MedicineTM can be used to increase wellness, improve health effectiveness, and strengthen the doctor-patient relationship.
- Proactively engage and empower patients by providing them with information and tools to get healthy and stay healthy, and to optimize all aspects of their being so that they can truly be proactive.
- Get health care providers to focus on prevention and rehabilitation and break the vicious cycle of health problems.
- Encourage patients to take responsibility for their health and wellness.
- Use all available resources to ensure wellness, including conventional, complementary, or alternative medicine.
- Provide patients with a safe and open environment in which to make informed choices about how to secure their health by discussing, journaling, and consistently meeting for checkups.
- Introduce and grow member health care practices and organizations by networking with other members to discuss their practices, referring each other to patients, and supporting each other in times of distress.
- Rejuvenate health care providers and alleviate stress by making their jobs about people and wellness, not pills and sickness. Change the focus of health care providers to wellness and healing, not problems and crises.
- Motivate, inspire, and encourage health care providers to rekindle their love of health care by reminding them why they entered the medical field.
- Show health care providers how to reduce costs and increase profits in their practice by using more efficient wellness methods.
- Take doctors from their "island" of isolation and surround them with supportive, likeminded professional health care providers who have recaptured their enthusiasm for medicine.
